Also the dev team is spanish, so extra points for my fellow hispanohablantes, pues más les vale que no haya defendido a este juego al pedo, sólo para que termine siendo un meh cuanto menos. So far, this game has my support, as I’m on board for more Cuphead-style goodness. So, to wrap up: keep an eye on this game, let’s see how much original it can turn, or if it goes the (bad, I must express) route of repeating Cuphead without improving upon it. Even as a clone the effort put in this game shows, and surely it’s better than all those Call of Duty clones we had during the late 00′s and early 10′s, or the current onslaught of grindy, repetitive, AAA “live service” open worlds with fucking “RPG mechanics”. My point is, as long as the full game doesn’t actually plagiarize Cuphead to a fault, it shouldn’t be blasted so harshly. Shovel Knight is an all-things 8-bit clone and yet it’s one of the greatest indie games of this decade. The Messenger is both a Ninja Gaiden clone and “another retro-style Metroidvania”, and it was my favorite game of 2018 (alongside Celeste, another take on the hard-as-nails 2D sidescroller). The art style here does seem like a bit of a rip off, but it's a cute art style and the trailer showed some unique features as well as the copied parts. Freedom Planet originally started as a Sonic fangame, and turned into a Sonic and Gunstar Heroes inspired 2D action platformer. Spark the Electric Jester is a pretty nice franchise, and it’s a Sonic and Kirby clone. Imagine all the games you love that are clones of something else (Insert Simpsons reference here). This may be my Sonic fan side showing, but fans making their own IP based on the IP they love doesn’t come as cheap or morally wrong to me, as long as it is not a complete and utter steal of the original property, of course. It isn’t a lazy ripoff like an asset flip would do, it’s a big effort to make more Cuphead, but by fans of Cuphead. It also takes a lot of effort and money to get that kind of music done. I’m no artist, but that shit sure takes lots of time and effort. ![]() At first I was expecting a Portal rip-off with Cuphead influences. But look at the animations, at the colors, at the designs. I was getting the weirdest Cuphead-wannabe vibes from the scene in the beginning and I couldn’t place my finger on exactly why. Yes, some bosses seem straight up lifted from the game (like that robo-cow being pretty much Dr. Yes, it copies the entire idea of a hard, 1930′s inspired 2D platformer with a Big Band OST. I haven’t interacted with the game’s fandom but I was there, on the outside, always recommending indie games like Cuphead to friends and strangers alike.Įnchanted Portals shouldn’t be a different case. 2D plataformers are my bread and butter, and the “hard” prefix on them is something I don’t usually delve into, but enjoy regardless. ![]() I played the game day one, endured the challenge and completed it 200% a couple times with every single achievement. It seems internet is blasting this game for being “such a cuphead ripoff!11!!!!11″, and it got me thinking: Is it a Cuphead clone? Yes, sure it is.
